CWJF Founding Members 1982

Recognizing the need for a service-oriented women’s organization in the rapidly growing FM 1960, Cypress and The Woodlands area, our founder, Peggy Jo Coker, initiated the procedures to form a chapter of Junior Forums, Inc. in the fall of 1981. With the help and encouragement of Marilyn Lynch, the JFI Expansion Chairman, a group of eleven dedicated members began meeting on a regular basis in January, 1982. Members of the original steering committee included Nancy Brandimarte, Kathy Chaffin, Gerry Christensen, Florra Clarke, Peggy Jo Coker, Loni Dennis, Maria Pyle, Georgan Reitmeier, Daisy White, Barbara Young and Kim Young. Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum was the official title chosen for the group.

In September 1982, eighty-four women from the FM 1960 and The Woodlands areas joined President Daisy White at the first meeting of the provisional Forum. Work continued toward the goal of becoming a chapter of JFI, and in March 1983, Junior Forums, Inc. granted the official chartering of the Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum. The dream had become a reality.

With service to the community as the primary goal of CWJF, the chapter adopted the motto of Growth Through Service, and began to select programs to fulfill that ideal. Over time, programs have been adapted to satisfy developing community needs and to ensure the most effective participation of the membership.

This year we are celebrating the 35th Anniversary of  Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum, as its nearly 400 active and sustaining members  continue their mission of Making a difference in the lives of children, families and the elderly.
